Confirm the court order you want to apply for
Let court office staff know which court order you want to apply for. If you are unsure, they will let you know the different options to help you decide.
Court office staff will ask you for specific information. This will confirm if you are eligible for the domestic violence order that you want to apply for. It will also allow court office staff to help you complete the paperwork. You can verbally confirm:
- The relationship between you and the respondent.
- Your property ownership status, e.g. owner, co-owner, name on lease.
- Your name and address and the respondent’s name and address.
- Any other family law court proceedings between you and the respondent.

Note: the judge can only grant the court order that is applied for. For example, if a judge decides that your case does not require a Barring Order, they cannot grant you a Safety Order instead, unless you have applied applied for one.
