Support and accessibility for jury service
If you’ve been called for jury service and need help — to respond, to attend, or because you’re worried about serving — support is available. This page covers help that is specific to jury service. For wider support at court, see the links at the end.
If you can’t respond online
You don’t have to use the online portal. You can respond to your summons by post using the form that came with it. If you can’t respond online or by post, or you need help doing so, contact the jury office and we’ll help you. [Courts Service to confirm the postal address and any phone option.]
If you need an adjustment at court
If you have a disability or a health condition and need an adjustment to serve on a jury — for example wheelchair access, a hearing loop, a sign language interpreter, materials in an accessible format, or extra breaks — let us know as early as you can so we can arrange it. [Courts Service to confirm how to request an adjustment, who to contact, and how much notice is needed.]
Tell us as soon as possible after you receive your summons, and ideally when you respond, so arrangements can be made before your date.
If you’re feeling anxious about serving
It’s normal to feel nervous, especially if you’ve never been to court. Knowing what to expect usually helps — see what serving on a jury is like, which explains your first day, how long it lasts, and what happens step by step.
You can also take a virtual tour of our courts to see inside a courtroom and move around it before your date, so it feels familiar when you arrive. If you have a particular concern, you can contact the jury office before your date.
If you can’t serve because of your circumstances
If a disability, illness, caring responsibility or other serious circumstance means you can’t serve, you may be able to ask to be excused or to move your service to a later date. See check if you can be excused or defer.
