Respond to your jury summons
You’ve been called for jury service. You must respond to your summons by the date shown on it — even if you want to ask to be excused or to move your date.
warning Watch out for jury service scams
Scammers pretend to be from the courts or the Gardaí and say you missed jury service, so you must pay a fine or face arrest. This is a scam. The Courts Service will never ask you to pay a fee or fine, demand payment, threaten you with arrest, or ask for your bank details or PPS number. If you get a message like this, don’t pay and don’t share any details.
How to know your summons is genuine
A real jury summons arrives by post from the Courts Service. It asks you to respond — it never asks you to pay.
If you’re unsure whether a message is genuine, contact the jury office using the details at the end of this page — not any number or link the sender gives you. You can report scams to An Garda Síochána.
Before you start

How to respond
Respond in one of two ways, by the date on your summons:
- Online — the quickest way.
- By post — fill in the form that came with your summons and post it back.
This opens the jury service portal in a new tab. When you respond, you can confirm you’ll attend, or ask to be excused or to move your date.
If you can’t respond online

Lost your summons?
If you’ve lost your summons and can’t respond, contact the jury office — don’t wait past your response date.
What happens if you don’t respond
You must respond to your summons. Ignoring a jury summons is an offence and you can be fined.
What happens after you respond
If you confirmed you’ll attend
Attend court on the date and time shown on your summons, and bring your summons with you. You won’t hear from us again unless the court details change, or the jury is no longer needed. If anything changes, we’ll contact you by [post/email — Courts Service to confirm].
If you asked to be excused

Asking to be excused does not cancel your jury service. Attend on your date as normal while you wait for a decision, unless the court office confirms you don’t need to. [Courts Service to confirm.]
You’ll usually get a decision within 14 working days from the local court office — by post if you applied by post, or by email if you applied online. The office may contact you for more information.
