What’s changing

From 1 September 2025, all documents submitted by eFiling must use the following file-naming format:

File-naming format

Case number The court case reference with no spaces 2025IECC12345
Document type Short code for the document Affidavit, NoticeOfMotion, Grounding
Date (YYYY-MM-DD) Date the document is filed 2025-09-01

Format: [CaseNumber]_[DocumentType]_[YYYY-MM-DD].pdf
Example: 2025IECC12345_Affidavit_2025-09-01.pdf

Who is affected

  • Solicitors and legal executives submitting via eFiling
  • Self-represented parties using eFiling

What you need to do

  1. Update internal templates and workflows to generate filenames using the required format.
  2. Check that scanned documents export as searchable PDFs.
  3. Where a document contains personal data, ensure redaction is applied before filing.

Grace period

Filings that do not follow the new format will be accepted until 30 September 2025. From 1 October 2025, non-compliant filenames may be rejected.
