Court of Appeal Terms and Sittings

The sittings of the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, and the sittings in Dublin of the High Court take place four times each year — during the Michaelmas, Hilary, Easter, and Trinity sittings.

Under Order 118 of the Rules of the Superior Courts:

  • Michaelmas sittings: Begin on the first Monday in October and end on 21 December.
  • Hilary sittings: Begin on 11 January and end on the Friday of the week before the Easter vacation.
  • Easter sittings: Begin on the Monday of the week after the Easter vacation and end on the Thursday before Whit Sunday.
  • Trinity sittings: Begin on the Wednesday of the week following Whitsun week and end on 31 July.

If 11 January falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the Hilary sittings begin on the following Monday.

2025 sittings

  • Hilary: 13 January – 11 April
  • Easter: 28 April – 5 June
  • Trinity: 18 June – 31 July
  • Michaelmas: 6 October – 19 December
