As part of Culture Night 2024, we were delighted to open the doors of the Four Courts to the public for a special evening celebrating Ireland’s rich cultural and historical heritage. The event offered visitors a unique opportunity to experience one of the country’s most iconic public buildings and to engage with the history and traditions associated with the Irish courts.
Alongside guided tours of the Four Courts campus, visitors explored the historic buildings, learned about the development of the Irish legal system, and discovered the significance of the Four Courts in Ireland’s civic and cultural life. The tours provided fascinating insights into the architecture, history and ongoing role of the courts in the administration of justice.
A particular highlight of the evening was the performance by the Mummers of Fingal in the magnificent Round Hall. Renowned for preserving the long-standing Irish tradition of mumming, the group delivered a vibrant and engaging performance that brought an important aspect of Ireland’s folklore and cultural heritage to life. Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Round Hall, the performance created a memorable experience for visitors and added a unique cultural dimension to the evening’s programme.
We were delighted to welcome so many people to the Four Courts for Culture Night and to share both the history of the courts and the richness of Ireland’s living traditions. The event highlighted the importance of preserving and celebrating our cultural heritage while opening historic public spaces to new audiences.
