Requirements for District Court Family Law Application
Please attend your appointment time, and ensure you have all the relevant documents before attending (see below) to progress your business as quickly as possible.
Access to this service:
- If you currently have proceedings in the Family Law Courts, please ensure that you bring your Case Reference number to your appointment.
To ensure your appointment can proceed, you should bring a number of documents with you, including:
- A valid form of ID, such as a Passport or Driving Licence.
Domestic Violence Applications
Note: You must be residing, or would normally be residing except for the conduct of the respondent, in the court area where you make a Domestic Violence Order application. If you require an urgent order under the Domestic Violence Act you DO NOT need to make an appointment and can attend at the relevant office in person.
- To apply for a Domestic Violence order you should complete an Application for a Domestic Violence order and bring this to your appointment. Alternatively, a member of court staff can provide an application form to you when you attend your appointment.

Maintenance Applications
- To apply for a new maintenance order you must complete an Application for Maintenance form and bring three exact copies to your appointment.
- To apply to vary or discharge an existing maintenance order, you must fill out an Application to vary or discharge a Maintenance Order form and bring three exact copies to your appointment.
- To apply to recover arrears of maintenance you must complete an Application to Recover Arrears of Maintenance form and bring three exact copies to your appointment.
- If there are more than three dependent children, please use the Additional Children form available here
Applications in relation to Arrangements for Children
- If you want to make an application in relation to guardianship, custody, access, passport issues or any other matters relating to children you must complete an Application in relation to Arrangements for Children and bring three exact copies to your appointment.
- To apply to vary or discharge an existing order, you must fill out an Application to Vary or Discharge an Order in relation to Arrangements for Children form and bring three exact copies to your appointment.
